The Adrianne open side slouchy sweater (say that ten times fast, ha!) is the newest pattern from the Do It Better Yourself (DIBY) club. The unique bands that go around the bottom of the sweater and overlap at the sides are a fun, and on-trend look.
I found some knit fabric at Walmart for $2/yard. While I was a little nervous about using this knit, it has a beautiful drape and a pretty metallic shimmer throughout the fabric. It seemed perfect for a pretty top to wear all holiday season. I did have a little difficulty with the boat neck finish, due to my fabric choice. After adding the facings to the neckline, my fabric stretched out a bit. Whenever I have knits that stretch during sewing, my first attempt to fix them is by giving them a good steam with my iron. While this helped a little, I still wasn’t completely happy yet. The ladies at DIBY suggested throwing it in the wash, and that made a huge difference! To get the neckline as smooth as possible, I decided to topstitch close to the neckline edge, instead of at the bottom of the facing as indicated in the instructions. With some good advice, patience and a few sewing tricks, I now have a neckline that I am happy with.
I made the boat neck, 3/4 sleeves options for my Adrianne slouchy sweater. There are also the following options included in the pattern:
- Necklines: Cowl Neck, Crew Neck and Boat Neck with Facing
- Sleeve Lengths: Short, Elbow, 3/4 and Long
- Sizes Misses 00 – Plus 36
Modifications: Instead of topstiching at the bottom of the facing, I stitched close to the neckline edge.
