The Sunshine Tee from Sew by Pattern Pieces is not your basic t-shirt. The unique spliced design makes for a really fun shirt that can be made in so many ways! I had originally only intended on testing the plain version of this shirt. When I saw the adorable spliced version, I immediately pictured it in rainbow colors and thought it might be too young looking for my teenagers. Then I got to thinking, and realized there were so many ways to make up this shirt. Fabric choice can take this from adorable toddler, to something that a teenager would wear! We are huge basketball fans, and our team is the Golden State Warriors. My girls have many Warriors shirts, but I knew that they would love another one.
I used double brushed poly in blue and yellow from Knitpop to make up this extremely comfortable shirt. Using my silhouette machine and some blue heat transfer vinyl, I was able to add “warriors” in the circle part of the design.
The Sunshine tee patterns comes in sizes 1-14, and I made a size 14 for both of the shirts. There are three sleeve options: short, 3/4 and long sleeves. You can make the plain tee or the spliced front. I was a little anxious prior to sewing up the spliced version, and worried about getting the pieces to fit together. I had no reason to worry at all. The instructions are easy to follow and the pieces came together so easily. After cutting out all of my pieces, I laid them out in the correct order. Then it was as easy as following the order of which pieces to sew. I chose to iron each seam as I went. Some of the testers topstitched the pieces, however I chose not to for this top. Depending on your fabric choice, you could use the topstitching to add even more detail to your tee.
There were so many amazing sunshine tees made during testing. I loved seeing each new shirt and the what fabric was used. Check out the Sew by Pattern Pieces Facebook page to see each of the shirts made during testing. Whether you use up your fabric scraps, or use your school or favorite sports teams colors, I know you will love the Sunshine tee!
