I am of the opinion that pockets make everything better. So, when I made myself a George & Ginger Mood dress with the gathered skirt option, I knew I needed to add some pockets. Here are the steps I used, so that you can add pockets to your dress too!
Grab a pocket piece from another pattern, or download a free pocket pattern (there are many available). Cut out 4 pocket pieces and finish the edges. I chose to serge mine, but you can also use a zigzag stitch.
Decide how far down you want you pockets and pin them to the side seams of your skirt with right sides together. I placed mine 4 inches down from the top of the skirt piece.
Serge down the side of the skirt and pocket. Press the pocket and seam away from the skirt.
Pin the front and back of the skirt with right sides together. Start at the top and then go around the pockets and then continue down the rest of the skirt. Sew in place.
Now that your pockets are attached, you can continue with the rest of the pattern instructions.
The bodice of the Mood dress is beautifully designed with darts so that you can get the perfect fit. This fashion zipper was fun addition to the back of the dress.
I love my new Mood dress. The pattern also comes with a maxi dress and a separate skirt option that both have a beautiful chevron effect.
